It is the year 2010 and we all are somewhat aware of the merits this natural and cheapest form of energy known as the Solar Energy brings. Decades back most of us did not know as much about solar energy as we do now. We are educated enough to know that the sources of energy on Earth, most of which come from fossil fuels, are in the process of depletion. Research has suggested that the only way to maintain survival is by making optimal use of energy emitted from the sun. Solar energy or solar power as we call it is the cleanest and efficient form of energy.

Until approximately a hundred years ago in the West, people only had recourse to renewable energy for heat and light for their homes. They burnt wood and sometimes coal or peat (OK, fossil fuels) and got up when the sun came up and went to bed with the sun too. In, fact a large part of the world’s population still lives like that.

There is life off the grid. You only need the grid to buy electricity if you cannot produce your own. Living on the grid has made too many of us lose our independence. We slavishly buy energy off the big providers and pay through the nose for it at the end of the month.

The replacement of traditionally created electricity with electricity made from renewable or different resources is now a viable alternative for many people in the Western world. The main stumbling block is the preliminary expense, which is why solar electricity is still not a practical affair in most other, hotter, countries.

It is almost high noon on the energy front. Oil, the substance that is used to produce most of the world’s electricity is becoming too dear to use to produce electricity for home consumption. Even if you believe that there are lakes of oil left, which could be true, the main reason they have not been exploited yet is because it is too costly to extract. The only thing that makes it a going concern is the high price of oil on the market.

Mankind needs light. We humans are dependent on light unlike some other species. Our whole world existed only in the day time for millions of years. We woke up with the sunlight and went to sleep when the sun went down. Afterward, we learned to produce our own light, but we were not totally successful at it until we commenced using electricity to make light.

It’s not always easy to save on your energy costs, particularly if your home needs to power a lot of different appliances. However, doing nothing about the situation will leave you paying far more for energy than you may need to.

Most likely, you and your neighbors are using the same source of energy - that is, your local utility company. You may have become used to carefully conserving this energy and drawing up household budgets which accommodate your household’s energy costs. You probably think that there’s really no other choice; however, alternative energy is an option and you can take advantage of several alternative energies to meet the needs of your home.

I am certain that you would like to come off the electricity grid. Who would not like to put a stop to those growing monthly bills? The problem is that no one is stepping up to the plate to tell us how to do it. Politicians are just starting to ring the alarm bells even though they have known about the predicted oil shortage for decades - like we all have.

The very life of every living thing on Earth is dependent on the Sun. Without the Sun, we would not have animal or plant life, which supplies us with food and companionship. Without the Sun, we would have died out in earlier days, without the Sun these days, we may last a while, but it would not be much of a life.

Have you ever thought about making your own wind turbine? It is not as easy as making your own solar panels but it is not hard either. Making your wind turbine look attractive is a bigger problem than making electricity from it. The first thing you have to do is get a set of plans to make a wind turbine and then set about purchasing all the parts.

Electricity produced from wind powered turbines is one of the most prevalent varieties of electricity from sustainable sources and it is the fastest-growing variety as well. Wind turbines are turned by the natural strength of the wind, so make electricity without ‘burning up’ any fossil fuels in the procedure. The more (harder) the wind blows, the more electricity is produced.

Many people are fed up of the escalating cost of electricity, but they do not know what they can do about it. They have switched lights off; they have not turned lights on; they have unplugged devices on stand-by and they have turned the central heating down and the air con up and it has only saved them pennies. Yet still the electricity bills go up on a regular basis. It is very exasperating.
