Geothermal Power
The need for developing technology, which would result in geo-thermal free energy, is imminent. This is a largely unexploited area of fantastic alternate free energy possibilities, as it simply taps the energy being naturally produced by the Earth herself. Vast amounts of power are present below the surface crust on which we move and have our being, all we need do is tap into it and control it.
The temperature at the hub of the earth is sixty times more than the temperature at which water boils and this tremendous heat produce pressure, which exist only a few miles below the surface. These forces contain huge quantities of free energy and superheated fluids in the form of magma, which we see in the power and energy of whenever there is a volcanic eruption. These fluids also come up to the surface of the earth as steam and come out from vents.
We can create our own vents, and we can create out own containment chambers for the magma and convert all of this energy into electrical energy to light and heat our homes. To make a geo-thermal plant, a well needs to be dug in an area with abundant source of magma or super hot fluid, then a pipe has to be used to bring up the fluid on to the surface level to get the necessary steam power. The steam would operate a turbine, which in turn would generate electricity.
Much denouncement of the process of tapping for geothermic free energy is forestalling any large-scale production. Critics say that study and research to find a resourceful area is too expensive and takes up too much time. Additionally, set up cost of a geo-thermal plant is again cost-prohibitive and there is not guarantee that the venture would yield profits later. It might be found that a geo-thermal site is ultimately not making adequate steam to make the plant feasible or promising.
Even conservationists have shown their concern that pumping up magma could also carry with it several harmful materials. However the benefits of geo-thermal free energy far outweighs such comments if only we researched it deeper. The truth of the matter is that since this energy is produced by earth itself, it cannot contain any serious pollutants. geothermal free energy is an economical free energy source – easy to develop after site identification and the set up of the plant to develop it.
A geothermal plant is also not as huge as say a dam or an atomic energy unit, making it a lesser risk to the environment. Using this alternative source of free energy would naturally reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. The most important point in the favor of geothermic energy is that we would never exhaust it and nor would its value increase with time, as it is an long-term source. Since in the end the use of geothermal energy is cost-effective the cost of building the energy plant can be recovered in no time.
